Hey Guys,

I wanted to pop in and give you a reading update.

So, I finished The Good Byline (a Contemporary Cozy Mystery), and I started Shadow of the Fox (a YA Fantasy Novel).

Now, let’s talk about ’em.

Recently Finished

Book Cover of The Good Byline by Jill Orr, a cozy mystery novel set in a small town.

I recently finished The Good Byline, a Riley Ellison Mystery by Jill Orr. It’s a stand alone Cozy Mystery, but the first in the Riley Ellison series.

Synopsis: Riley Ellison has just moved back to her small town home after breaking up with her boyfriend of 7 years.

After she returns, she decides to re-connect with her childhood best friend, Jordan. There’s just one problem: Jordan died by suicide a few days earlier.

Not fully believing Jordan’s death was a suicide, and also being asked by Jordan’s mother to write her obituary, Riley begins to look into the matter.

Did Jordan actually die by suicide? Was it foul play? If so, who would want Jordan dead, and why?

My Final Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

This story was quirky, and zany. The writing is super accessible. But the plot went in circles for a bit, until Riley figured out whether Jordan’s death was a suicide for not. As you can imagine, there’s a lot of second-guessing here. Overall, I thought the story was just OK.

It’s a good book if you want something easy to get through that isn’t too heavy.

Currently Reading

I started reading Shadow of the Fox by Julie Kagawa. It’s a YA Fantasy Fiction, the first in a trilogy, and was released during the last quarter of 2018.

Book Cover of Shadow of the Fox, by Julie Kagawa, a Young Adult, Fantasy Fiction Novel.

It’s about…well, I like to go into my books pretty blind, and the plot has yet to unfold, so I can’t give a proper synopsis just yet. But if you’re into Fantasy, especially Asian-Inspired Fantasy, check out the synopsis.

First Impression: So far I’ve only read a chapter and a half but I can’t wait to get back to it!

The storytelling, and the writing, grabbed me right off the bat.

I’m looking forward to seeing where this goes.
